Police-force data, with the gaps left visible
Compare the latest street-level records held in CrimeRate’s database, then inspect separate arrest and disclosure evidence without treating unlike measures as one league table.
Why Greater Manchester is missing
This is a source-coverage gap, not a failed search and not a zero-crime result. Greater Manchester Police has not supplied street-level crime data to the central archive since July 2019, and the current official archive still contains no Greater Manchester crime, outcome or stop-and-search file. CrimeRate does not substitute nearby-force records or manufacture a Manchester total.
Three sources answer three different questions
The unit, period and population change between these sources. The sections below keep them separate.
Street-level archive
One row is a published crime or anti-social-behaviour record assigned to a privacy-protected map point. It is useful for geographic patterns, not population offending rates.
Compare the latest force files →National arrest tables
Home Office force-area tables use a common publication framework. Arrests are police actions and do not establish guilt or count unique offenders.
Open the national arrest release →Local disclosures
Freedom of Information responses can add fields such as nationality, but definitions, missing values and extraction rules can differ from one force to another.

Open the official archiveWest Yorkshire Police disclosure, unpacked
Arrests resulting in one or more charge or summons, calendar year 2025. This is a local disclosure with its own definition, not the street-record dataset above.

Checks required before comparing forces
A force figure is publishable only when these six questions can be answered from the source.
Definition
Does the measure count records, arrests, charges, defendants, convictions or people?
Coverage
Which dates, systems and geographic units are included, and which submissions are missing?
Missing data
How much is unknown, not stated, suppressed or excluded from the denominator?
Deduplication
Can one person or event appear more than once across offences, outcomes or periods?
Comparability
Do the period, category definitions and extraction rules match the other force?
Provenance
Can the original release, publication date, definition and caveats be recovered?
Related crime and demographic evidence
Each page uses a different population, reference period and statistical unit. Keep those definitions attached when moving between them.
